Velskov Open Studio 2026: A Weekend of Art, Ecology, and Wellness
Welcome to the botanical art practice of Mamakan at Velskov, where art, ecology, and wellness combine. Her practice is expanding with the philosophy of GastroEcology: a new sensory approach to rewilding ourselves and our environments. For Open Studios Waitākere 2026, she invites you to step into a multi-sensory exploration of our native forests.
At the heart of the Open Studio is the Velskov Forest Tea interactive experience. Fresh infusions with rainwater and native pioneer species mimic the ecosystem of a regenerating New Zealand forest. The species combine to create a daily ritual of rewilding the inner forest, the microbiome.
Beyond the tasting experience, Mamakan's practice encourages you to take this installation home. Discover how to cultivate your own 1m x 1m Tea Garden using eco-sourced, hyper-local native plants. Visit to taste, smell, touch, and learn how we can grow our own wellness while restoring the beautiful regional biodiversity of Waitākere.
